New connector on the way to the standard

Hannover, 24. April 2009 – A newly developed standard connector to load electric cars present RWE on the hannover messe. The connector has designed the electricity group together with daimler, was implemented by plug specialists mennekes. The VDE working group 542.1 (connectors electric vehicles) further developed specification should be submitted by the end of april of the IEC (international electrotechnical commission), until the end of may the "final draft for vote" be finished.

Rotary current and signal contacts

The plug flattened plug has five rough contacts for grounding, nullivers and the three-phase phases as well as two more smaller contacts that allow transmission of signals even if the stream line is turned off. These two additional pins put the coarse difference to the very widespread, about equivalent, funfpolige CEE rotary current plugconnections according to IEC 60309 is. This is used, for example, on construction sites or camping vehicles and even with some existing charging panels they are used.

Vehicle identification via powerline

The signal contacts should, according to RWE, encourive that laity also has an electric car safely and without supervision to a charging pan: the 7-pin socket on the charging panel is in the normal state voltage-free. If the customer connects his car with her, initially takes a handshake via powerline, ie the datatransmission via power line. In this way, the electronics in the charging pan can recognize whether it is about a legitimate consumer and how high the electricity requirement of the car is before starting the charging process. However, in addition to normalized connectors, this scenario requires appropriate intelligence and interfaces of the electrical electronics of the electric car – this should be able to convey the FURSA-rest-related charging cycle and must cancel loading at any time, as long as a disruption occurs as superheating. In addition, the station can turn off the power when a plug should be loose: the pens for the signal lines are different lengths, so that the chargecan recognize if the plugs are correct in their counterparts. Which powerline standard is used is still open, in the area of home networking, there are several variants with different bandwidth. RWE preferences that "homeplug turbo"-method that sends up to 85 mbps gross over the power line. Although this data rate is clearly surpassed by current procedures for home networking, for that it is to the still ages homeplug 1.0 (maximum 14 mbit / s gross) compatible.
